Win a WindowDry Rack for 10/10/10

October 8, 2010

Congrats to our winners, Kristen and Courtney.

Be sure to subscribe to our RSS feed, to get the heads up on all our giveaways and contests.

Earlier this week we gave away a WindowDry rack to promote line-drying. And today we’re giving away two more, to spread the word about our friends at Project Laundry List.

This Sunday is 10/10/10, a global work party, in which people like you and me take on small tasks to make a big difference in the fight against global warming. Some groups are fixing up bikes. Some are planting trees. Some are installing solar panels. And some are saying no to energy-sucking dryers and switching back to the good old-fashioned clothesline.

Our friends at Project Laundry List, an organization devoted to the “Right to Dry” movement are having a Halloween party in New Hampshire this weekend. They aim to raise awareness about “vampire appliances” (ie. dryers that suck up energy). Learn more about their fun party (with a graveyard tour!) here.

Imagine what a difference we could make, if we all let more of our clothes hang in the breeze! (And how much softer our clothes would feel.)

Even if you’re not in New Hampshire, you can get involved. Make a pledge to try out line-drying (or leave some helpful tips if you’re an experienced clothesline user) in the comments below, and you’ll be entered to win 1 of 2 WindowDry racks.

We’ll announce the winners on Monday. Hope you have a fun 10/10/10!

Love, love, love to line dry! It can be a challange in a one-bedroom apartment, but worth it! It’s better for the environment, better for my electric bill and better for my clothes 🙂

    Yeah to the line-drying movement!

Would LOVE a window line dryer. the Homeowners Association in my development does not allow outdoor clotheslines, so I’m forced to use a dryer right now. Drives me nuts that even when I’m adament about recycling and being green, I am not allowed to air-dry my laundry.

I love drying outside and lucky enough to be able to 9+ months here in Kentucky.

While I would really enjoy a new indoor clothes rack I already have a couple.

My plans with this one (if I’m lucky enough to win) would go to my sister in Colorado. Her old electric dryer went out and she can’t afford a new one. I’m trying to convince her to simply hang her clothes!

This would really go a long way to getting that done.

    Namaste’

    Chris

Would love to try out a new way to dry my clothes besides my dryer! I have been looking for something ever since I moved and lost my backyard clothes line. Right now I have clothes hanging all over the place ~ chairs, towel bars, even on the staircase lol

I’ve used floss to hang up a quick line from window to window in one of my rooms 🙂 great for baby clothes that I don’t want to shrink.

  • Reply pam October 8, 2010 at 10:38 am

I line dry almost all my clothing. It stops shrinkage and fading, plus, it saves energy.

Love line drying clothes outside! As a new mommy, sun is one of the most powerful bleaching agents out there. Event the dirty diapers or spit-up outfits come out blindingly white after a few hours outside in direct sunlight! Not to mention the awesome fresh smell.

  • Reply Stephanie October 8, 2010 at 10:41 am

Oh my kids and I could definately use this!!!

  • Reply Jennifer October 8, 2010 at 10:42 am

great idea! i line dry 1/4 of my clothes, and would love to do more. but i need more racks…. 🙂

  • Reply Melissa October 8, 2010 at 10:43 am

This would be so handy in a small apartment!! I would line dry like it was my job!!

  • Reply Catherine Williamson October 8, 2010 at 10:44 am

Hangdrying our clothes is one of the top three things we want to do to be more green along with composting (we just got a little piece of yard and are ready to try it out!), and hoping to get a bike to ride to work. We already work pretty hard but definitely need to use our dryer less! My husband has started draping wet clothes all over our basement, but it would be awesome to have a better system… 🙂

  • Reply Katie October 8, 2010 at 10:45 am

I love to hang diapers outside but don’t have a place to do it really. For now I drape them over the playset and we have to use our dryer for clothes 🙁

  • Reply Krista October 8, 2010 at 10:47 am

My husband and I line dry almost all our clothes. We have a small city apartment, so the clothes rack takes up 1/2 of our dining room. It stays even when there are no clothes on it because we have no place to store it. A Window Dry Rack would be great for us. Either way, we will continue to hang our clothes to dry!

We have great weather here in VA and are able to line dry almost all year long. I really miss doing it and would love to have a way to line dry again.

  • Reply Kristen October 8, 2010 at 11:13 am

I love line drying, but living in a cold climate it is difficult during the winter.
To make it work we set up cloths lines in the basement, it works great and my basement smells better for it!

    Go Green…line dry!!

  • Reply Rachel October 8, 2010 at 11:23 am

Would love to be able to line dry! In Michigan weather with small yards it’s not easy!

Here in San antonio, weather allows me to line dry nearly everyday. Humidity & allergens such as mold & pollens are my enemies. i watch the forecast and load up the line with heavier items such as towels and sheets and jeans – especially on 90+ temp days. i do love the exfolliating effects of line dried towels!

  • Reply Trish October 8, 2010 at 11:32 am

Would love to give line drying a try!!! (just need a little motivation, I guess!)

  • Reply Tonya Morris October 8, 2010 at 11:42 am

Love to line dry!!! Saves money and energy, your clothes last longer (saving MORE money), and they smell like sunshine!!! =)

Just a bit south of Joan Allen from SA. Here in Brownsville, its only the rain you have to watch out for. One of these line dryers would work when i have to move drying in from the elements a bit.

I live in a homeowners association in NE Ohio. We are not allowed to have a permanent clothes line and “no eye sores” so it is a judgment call. I have been encouraging others to dry their clothes outside this summer and will continue the encouragement for indoor drying this winter.

  • Reply Paula October 8, 2010 at 1:42 pm

I love these racks! I’m in a bedroom, and share the house with its owners, so I can’t make any changes like adding a line outside. These will also help me dry some of the herbs we’ve been growing all summer.

For a day like today, clear blue sky, 76 degrees, and a gentle breeze, a drying rack (or a plain old line) would be perfect.

  • Reply Deanne Ross October 8, 2010 at 5:14 pm

There’s nothing like the smell of line dried clothes and sheets.
    So fresh and crisp!

  • Reply Jehan October 8, 2010 at 6:32 pm

I hang dry my most expensive items, but I am looking forward to treating all my clothes like valuables! 🙂

  • Reply Stephanie October 8, 2010 at 6:40 pm

Absolutely nothing like the fragrance of sheets dried in the air and sun. Our Rear Window urban neighbors think we’re Luddites, but hey.

  • Reply Karen October 8, 2010 at 6:55 pm

I love to line-dry cuz I love to save money!

  • Reply Amy October 8, 2010 at 8:23 pm

I love saving money by drying clothes on the line…but I live in an area where this isn’t possible for 7-8 months. Inside drying would be a great option.

  • Reply Christine October 8, 2010 at 10:14 pm

rainy Seattle can be challenging to line dry outside…but I do it, even tho it can take days…i would use an inside line dryer most definately

  • Reply Mimi K. October 9, 2010 at 10:07 am

Love the smell of clothes after they have been lined dry!! Nothing better…I would definately use an inside line dryer!

  • Reply patti October 11, 2010 at 12:25 pm

To all the above commentors. Blogs can be much better to read if You can keep Your comments simple and to the point. No-one likes to read giant comments when the concept can be conveyed using a not as long comment.

An fascinating dialogue is price comment. I believe that you must write more on this topic, it won’t be a taboo subject however usually persons are not sufficient to talk on such topics. To the next. Cheers
