Family Photo Finish

On Friday, we asked our blog readers and Facebook fans to share their favorite family photos with us for a chance to win our new Family Traditions Journal.

We received a variety of photos, from funny, to traditional, to touching, and everything in between. We could only pick three families to win copies of this hand-bound book, but we thank everyone who entered for sharing a bit of their family history with us!

Our first winner, Christine, sent us this fun photo of herself with her little ninjas and the family kingpin. “My boys and I do Taekwondo, and I think sometimes my husband feels left out,” she told us. “So this year I planned our ‘Ninja’ picture so hubby could be included – he’s our Bosley!”

We love the photo, but we’re not so sure the boys will appreciate the Charlie’s Angels reference as they get older!

Our next winner, Jennifer, sent a photo that fits in nicely with the Family Traditions theme.

We love this photo from Jennifer’s great-grandparents’ 39th wedding anniversary. “I love how old photos like this help connect today’s generation with those who’ve gone before,” she said.

That’s the spirit! And, Jennifer, we’d love to know what year this great photo was taken, and if you’re one of the youngsters in it. (Unless you don’t want us doing the math and calculating your age.)

We chose our final winner after her story took a good tug at our heartstrings. Annie explained that the journal would make a lovely gift for her brother and sister-in-law, who just adopted four beautiful children who had been through rough times before coming to their new home.

“My brother and wife took these children in and showed them pure and simple love that they never even knew existed until over the last 3 and a half years of their lives. The adoption was just finalized this last week and my cup runneth over with pride and love for them all. My brother and his wife are amazing and the children are so incredibly blessed to have them for their parents. I am even more blessed to have the children in my life! They inspire me,” she said. “I cannot wait to introduce them to our ‘Schmidt’ traditions and have already welcomed them with open arms. I met them for the first time this weekend and fell in love, individually with all four of them. I already have things I’d personally love to write in the book about each of their characteristics that I just love.”

Annie also shared a special message for Ashely (11), Taylor (9), Katie (7), and Zachary (5). “Every new beginning comes from some other new beginning’s end and their future is looking bright and THIS is one beginning that will NEVER actually end. They will be forever loved! Welcome, kiddos! Your Auntie Annie loves you more than words can say.”

We’re proud to be a part of relaying such a loving message! Thanks, Annie, for sharing this story with a happy ending with us! And thanks again to all of our winners and contestants for passing along your favorite family photos.

That photo was taken in 1949. My mother is the 8 year old girl sitting in the chair with my great-grandma. I’m so happy that you liked it!

  2. Anna

I am in shock right now. I would have just bought it anyways but I’m thrilled!

Thank you so much! I’m so incredibly touched and am glad that my entrance envoked a tug at some hearts. Is one can only touch one other person’s life in their lifetime; it is a blessing. These four kiddos already have one touching moment EACH in me and they are not even teenagers yet!

‘Tis the season to remember what family love and appreciation is all about.. Perhaps this story will help carry someone other than just me to embrace this feeling all year around and then some!

    Many thanks!
