Our Best Friends: Photo Contest

February 21, 2011

This week, we’re celebrating our favorite pets. Whether you (like me) gaze longingly into the window of every pet store and stop at pet adoption fair you pass, or you already have a beloved pet in your family, I’m betting you have a great collections of photos, videos and stories to share.

Jessica, our graphic designer, shared this pic of her dog Jingles (L) with Madison (R).

So this week, you can share them with the UncommonGoods community by joining our group on Flickr, posting to our Facebook wall, tweeting @uncommongoods, or leaving a comment below.

We’ve got some pet-friendly gifts to give away, and if your pet is posing with a pet-friendly gift from UncommonGoods, we just might add your pet’s photo or video to our website!

We’ll announce our winner(s) next week.

My dog Boudreaux the Wonder Beagle now graces your Facebook wall. My friends from Louisiana named him, you should have seen me stenciling THAT dandy of a name on a doghouse! He is a sweetie of an old man and just turned 14. What would we do without the love of our dogs?

We adopted our terrier mutt mix dog, Toby from our local animal shelter. When I take Toby for a walk through our neighborhood we usually see a 5 year old little girl. About a year ago, she would run into her house when she saw us coming. She was terrified of dogs. After a few months she would just stand on her porch and watch us go by or watch her sister pet Toby. I tried to coax her over to pet Toby to no avail. Each day we’d say hi and eventually, she was able to stand within two feet of Toby. Slowly, she started moving closer. One day I succeeded in getting her to just touch the dog. Toby would just stand still and wag his tail. It took almost a year, but she now runs to us when she sees us and pets Toby until I say we have to go. Toby is a goodwill ambassador for shelter dogs everywhere. He helped a child overcome her fear of dogs. Just posted his sweet face on your FB page.
