The Uncommon Life

Meet our Moderator

July 6, 2011

Here at UncommonGoods, we love getting customer feedback, hearing your stories and helping you find products you love. My name is Cassie, and as your Community Moderator, it’s my job to answer your questions and tell you more about our company and goods.

When I’m not testing our products to provide answers to your questions on our website, commenting on your feedback in our Voting App or replying to your product reviews, I’m usually sending out tweets from @UncommonGoods or writing posts for this blog. Since I learn so much about our customers and their interests from all of the fantastic feedback we receive, I’m going to give you the chance to learn a bit more about me.

I grew up in Moorhead, Minn. A smallish town touching (well, not really, because of a river between them—but almost) Fargo, ND. I lived in the Midwest for most of my life, but after a few visits to New York City I knew I wanted to make this (Brooklyn in particular) bustling city my home.

I love living in a busy city, full of fun adventures to be had. Soon after arriving in Brooklyn, I discovered one of my favorite places, Grand Army Plaza, home to a beautiful library (I’m kind of a book nerd), a great farmer’s market and the entrance to Prospect Park.

After a few weeks of exploring New York, eating way too much amazing new food and generally taking in the atmosphere, I decided to get myself a job and was thrilled to find that UncommonGoods was hiring. I was already familiar with the website and products (I love my Singing in the Rain Shower Curtain, Geek Watch and Clocky—all things I had my eye on before working here!) and happily started in November. I became Community Moderator in May, and now my days consist of learning about our products and potential new goods, writing about interesting people, organizations and merchandise and hanging out with the amazing folks here at UncommonGoods.

As Community Moderator, I get to research our products, learn about the talented artists and designers who make them and read stories that customers share about why they love our goods. My favorite feedback comes from those who’ve given something special they’ve found on our website to a friend or family member and can’t wait to tell us how well the present was received. It feels good to know that our unique products are making people happy.

When I’m not working, I still like to explore Brooklyn, try new restaurants and coffee shops (I admit—I am a coffee junkie), take in some of the art and music the city has to offer and read a good book outdoors on a sunny day.

I’m looking forward to reading your reviews, answering your questions and helping you find uncommon gifts (and great stuff for yourself!) in the future!
