My Grandma Hannah was the first person to introduce me to palindromes, words that read the same backward and forward. Her name, with its impeccable symmetry and simple syllables, still wins as my favorite palindrome. “Mom” is another favorite, though for different reasons. Sure, it was one of the first words I uttered and it holds powerful meaning in my life. But what really tickles me is that the word “MOM” when written in all upper-case letters spells “WOW.”
How perfect is that? Seriously.
In preparation for Valentine’s Day, we asked you to share your uncommon date stories. We expected to hear some tales of romance and a few funny anecdotes about dates gone wrong, but we had no idea we’d get so many great entries–making it pretty hard to pick just two winners.
In the end, after many “Aw, that’s SO sweet”s and plenty of chuckles, we decided on one date that we wished we could replicate and one we’d rather not.
Dinner and a movie is nice, but it’s not exactly the most original romantic outing. When it comes to Valentine’s Day, the same old date just doesn’t cut it–so we put together a collection of Uncommon Gifts for the Perfect Date Night. This got us thinking about some of the truly unusual date stories we’ve heard in the past and a social media contest was born!
Maybe your own most bizarre date ended up being a total disaster, but left you with a hilarious story. Maybe the tale of your most interesting date was just the start of a great love story. We want to know about the good, the bad, and totally off-the-wall. Tell us about your most #UncommonDate in the comments below or use the #UncommonDate hashtag on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram for your chance to win one of the uncommon date packages featured in our Valentine’s Day Gift Guide.
We are only as successful as the artists and designers we work with. Their unique creations are what keep our lights on and the reason our customers visit our website and read our catalogs. Our passion for identifying the very best designs to add to our assortment of uncommon goods is why we’ve decided to partner with jewelry industry authority JCK on the first-ever “UncommonGoods Design Challenge” for JCK Tucson. JCK Tucson is an event catered to jewelry industry professionals that displays one-of-a-kind collections of finished jewelry and loose gemstones. The event takes place February 2-7 at the JW Marriott Starr Pass Resort & Spa in Tucson, AZ.
Finding the right gift for someone special is quite an accomplishment, even if picking out that present isn’t difficult to do. Knowing just what to get an important person takes skill, and that perfect present is more than some thing, it’s a token of love. Sure, it sounds a little cheesy, but what better time to break out the cheese ball than the holidays? That’s why we’re a little giddy about our new social media contest: #BringBacktheBow.
Why do we want to bring back the bow? The thought of friends and family exchanging all those just-the-right-gifts with each other fills us with holiday joy! But, before each gift is unwrapped, it has to spend a little time bound in paper, stuffed in a stocking, or adorned with a big ol’ bow. That wrap job is more than just a clever disguise, it’s proof that you put a little extra TLC into your present presentation to make your giftee’s opening experience extra amazing.
Celebrate the whole gift experience with us by showing off your radiant wrapping, creative and crafty packaging, and best-decorated boxes and bags for the chance to win a $50 UncommonGoods gift certificate. Share your photo on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter with the hashtag #BringBacktheBow to enter.
Spread even more cheer by tagging the recipient of the gift in your photo, and they’ll be entered to win a $50 gift card as well. (Just make sure that no part of the present is peeking out in your snapshot. We wouldn’t want to ruin the surprise for anyone!)
We’re absolutely in love with jewelry designer Jen Pleasants’ organically-shaped, handmade, wearable pieces of inspirational art. So, when we learned that she’s in search of the perfect phrase to inscribe on her next design, we couldn’t wait to help her find it! But, we can’t do it alone. We need your help, too!
Send us your favorite quote or mantra by posting it on our Facebook timeline or tweeting it @UncommonGoods with the hashtag #ShareAQuote. If Jen picks your entry, you’ll get a bracelet featuring those winning words!
