Chop, Slice, Dash & Dice

July 31, 2011

Kylene said: “This is an adorable idea…this coming from someone who is definitely OCD! I love it.”

This beechwood cutting board is precisely marked to make sure your ingredients are cut to just the right proportions. You may not know the difference between a pinch and a dash off the top of your head, but thanks to this brilliant board, you won’t have to let that stop you from creating your next culinary masterpiece.

Do you agree with Kylene? If you can’t wait to start chopping pristine pieces of celery, mincing garlic to perfection and dicing onions like a pro, visit our community voting app and tell us you love the OCD Cutting Board.

Sterling Silver Birds of a Feather

July 23, 2011

Next month, we’re hosting an Uncommon Jewelry Challenge, with an open call for jewelry from designers across the US. This month we’re highlighting our favorite jewelry makers. Find out more about our design challenges and learn how you can become UncommonGoods’ next favorite jewelry or accessory designer.

Artist Rhonda Wyman has always had a “do it yourself” attitude when it comes to jewelry design. The same year she graduated from Rhode Island School of Design, she married her husband, Elijah (who she calls an indie-folk singer-songwriting superhero) and they started selling Rhonda’s pieces through the independent craft scene. Although the popularity of Rhonda’s work continues to grow over the years– her Nestling Bird Necklaces being some of UncommonGoods best selling jewelry items– she still makes each piece by hand and is always finding inspiration for bold new designs.

Harvest Plate Design Challenge

June 20, 2011

UncommonGoods and City Harvest are teaming up to create the next Plate with a Purpose™ with your help! We received a bounty of fantastic plate designs and the finalists are the stars of our Community Voting App this week.

The winning design will be etched on to a handmade recycled glass plate. A portion of the sales of these plates will go to benefit City Harvest and help feed New York’s hungry.

We asked our community to submit designs that reflect City Harvest’s mission and artists responded with images ranging from sweet and simple to astutely abstract. Now, we need your votes to help us pick the winning design!

Introducing the Blunt Umbrella

April 12, 2011

Our brand new blunt umbrella is the last umbrella you’ll ever need. Designed with rounded edges that eliminate sharp run-ins with passersby and a radial tension system that makes for easy handling in strong weather, this high-tech umbrella helps you take on rainy days with grace.

But you can see for yourself. (Warning: Turn down the volume. It was windy out there!):

I went out in an afternoon shower on the windiest pier I could find, just to make sure the blunt umbrella lives up to the hype. And as you can see, it does.

Want to hear what I was saying? Here I am, testing out the blunt umbrella before the storm really picked up:

If you ever had any doubts about how much we at UncommonGoods love our customers, know this. We don’t hesitate to run out into rainstorms to make sure you have the best possible rain accessories!
